Isn’t that a great and mouthwatering sight at this time of sweltering heat in southern Texas? 😉
Motivated by a posting by travel writer Kathleen Scott on her interesting and informative Blog “Hill Country Mysteries” about the beers of the Real Ale Brewing Company in Blanco/TX I bought a sampler of beers of that company today at Whole Foods in San Antonio …
… and, of course, started my personal sampling after supper here at home, with the Brewhouse :
And it doesn’t only look nice, it also tastes nice – real nice.
A few words about that beer, which, of that I’m pretty sure, would have tasted even better freshly drawn from the cask:
On the label of the bottle, this beer is described as “rich, malty and dry – a full bodied American brown ale“, and I can only agree. To enlarge on this, on their website the brewers describe it as “Caramel brown with a hint of chocolate, Brewhouse Brown melds four kinds of malt and American hops into a delicious dark ale. Rich and roasty, yet with a dry finish, it is the perfect companion for a hearty meal.”
Well, it can certainly hold its own with the best British ales. It definitely has a full body, with a nice proportion of malt set off against a fairly but not overly bitter aftertaste of hops, with an ever so slight sweetness detectable. Its colour is a very darkish brown, with a lighter. milk-chocolate coloured firm head. On the tongue you feel the smooth and pearly quality of that lightly carbonated brew with just a hint of foam.
