… [not since February, in fact] since we got gas for under 3 dollars, but today, on our way back from Austin [more on that in another posting] we got it for $ 2.999 per gallon at an Exxon Station in Luling. When we saw the sign, we first didn’t want to believe our eyes, but it proved to be true. The day before, on our way up to Austin, it had still been $ 3.099 there, and we had filled up our tank at a different station for $ 3.079. That was cash only, but what does that matter? Btw, with hindsight, it was a pity that we had filled our tank on the way up as we would easily have made it back to that Exxon station in Luling and then been able to get more gas at that cheap price. As it was, we had only room for a little more than 6 gallons. But still, we’re happy.
Talking of “cash only”: you just go to the cashier and leave money there, either more than enough so that you can fill up, or just the amount you want to spend, and the cashier sets this as a limit to the pump.
And a remark as to Luling: this town smells, from one end to the other, of oil. And the oil pumps [“donkeys” they’re called] can be seen all over the town, even, if I’m correct, on the school’s premises.
