Wildfires in Texas

After a month-long extreme drought and many weeks of triple-digit temperatures and therefore dried-up vegetation, we’ve been experiencing high winds since yesterday, and all that combines – unfortunately – to create excellent conditions for widespread brush and grass fires that – because of the high winds – are extremely difficult to contain.

The German newspaper “Die Zeit” had pictures of “Texas Burning” on Saturday, and a map with the fires and the smoke plumes – “only” those, though, that show up on satellite imagery, can be found here.

  1. Hi Sabrina,
Well, it certainly IS an important issue just now here in Texas, isn’t it? And it stays on people’s minds. We’re fine here in Karnes City, as most of the fires are (quite) far away to the north and east. But then, you never know: just one idiot throwing a cigarette butt out of his car window will be enough to start a blaze in the present conditions.Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
I’m glad that the situation in West Texas has improved, after that horrible fire in the Fort Davis area.
    Take care,

  2. We must be thinking alike 🙂 Just posted something on the wildfires too. How are you guys holding up? Looks like Central and South Texas are being hit pretty bad right now. Up here in West Texas it has calmed down luckily.

  3. Hi Randall.
Thx for checking. All’s well here, even if we have the smoke-induced haze here from the Bastrop-county wildfires more than 90 miles away and can even smell the fires.
    Take care,

  5. I meant to pop in to see if you and yours were OK. I trust all is well.

I'd really love to hear from y'alls!
